Let me explain! I hate that my hands show my age. I got a face of a 40 year old and the hands of someone over 60. Not what I wanted. I have extremely sensitive skin, most hand creams leave me itchy. I worked with shea butter, cacao butter, even pharmaceutical style preparations through compounding. One of my experiments yielded a hard milky chunk. It melted into the skin as I rubbed it into my right hand and afterwards about an hour later I realized that hand skin wasn’t as crepey looking as the other hand, and a day later it still looked better so I melted one into my other hand. The results were dramatic! So I made some more this time I put them in a goldfish mold to give them a shape, it was all I had at the time. I thought they were cute.
I showed it to a friend of mine and she thought it was a gummy. Once I cleared that up, she tried it, with the same results. When she asked me what I was going to call it I said, “Solid Hand Cream” she laughed and said, ” But fishes? How can it be a cream it’s a fish!” “Buttfishes? Now that’s a catchy name.” I replied. She laughed even harder and said “Not BUTTFISHES, I said, ‘But Fishes?’ as in why fishes?” We both laughed about that and I like the name, it makes me giggle, so we started calling them Buttfishes and the name stuck.
